Three children fall from window of double-decker bus

Three schoolchildren fell from the top floor window of a bus in Greater Manchester.
A major emergency response was dispatched to the incident on Bolton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield shortly before 16:00 GMT.
Manchester Police said the children had “potentially serious injuries” but their injuries were not life-threatening.
The investigation was still in its early stages but Inspector Simon Barrie said it appeared to be an “unfortunate accident”.
“This is a serious incident that will cause disruption,” he said.
“Our priority is to ensure that the children receive the treatment they need in hospital. Fortunately, we do not believe their injuries are life-threatening.”
Councilor Danny Fletcher, from Ashton-on-Makerfield South, posted on Facebook and said some children had suffered potentially life-changing injuries.
“I spoke to our police team this afternoon,” he said.
“As we know, three young people fell through the top deck side window of a school bus and were taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital, some with life-threatening injuries.
“I have contacted the schools involved to ensure they receive council support if necessary. I send my thoughts and all my love to the children and families involved.”
The road was later reopened.
Transport for Greater Manchester said: “Our thoughts are with those injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.
“Emergency services are at the scene and we are working closely with the bus operator to support police with their investigations into the incident.”
