Is ChatGPT down? Users report login issues as OpenAI confirms outage

Thousands of users around the world are reporting problems accessing OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, with many unable to log in, send prompts, or access chat history.

The outage began after an increase in reports to DownDetector from users in the United States, Europe, India, Japan, Australia and several other countries in the last 40 minutes.

OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its status page, saying it was investigating the outage.

“We are investigating the issue for the services listed,” the company said.

Users have reported a number of connectivity issues affecting both the ChatGPT website and mobile app. The issue appears to affect both free and paid subscribers.
The most frequently reported problems are:

  • Failed logins and authentication errors
  • Chat history not loading
  • Users are logged out unexpectedly
  • “Service unavailable” messages when sending requests
  • Conversations cannot be loaded

Many users also took to social media platform X to report that they were stuck on loading screens or unable to access previous chats.

OpenAI is investigating the issue

OpenAI’s status page lists the issue as being investigated. During the outage, the status page intermittently switched between showing an active event and normal operations; This is something that can happen when authentication systems experience disruptions, even if underlying AI models remain operational.

The company has yet to disclose the cause of the outage or provide an estimated timeline for restoration.

The latest outage occurred days after the previous outage

The latest incident comes just two days after OpenAI suffered another major outage affecting its ChatGPT, Codex, and API services. It took approximately 24 hours for this outage to be fully resolved.

While another outage is imminent, users have expressed concerns about the platform’s recent reliability.
