Israel Strikes Several Parts of Lebanon, Says Targeted Hezbollah

BEIRUT: Israel launched attacks in southern Lebanon on Saturday and its military said it hit dozens of Hezbollah targets.
Attacks have become a regular occurrence despite a fragile ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war, with both sides accusing each other of violations.
The Israeli army said in a statement that it had hit Hezbollah targets, adding that “approximately 70 military structures and approximately 50 Hezbollah infrastructure facilities were dismantled in various regions” on Saturday.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) also reported that several people were killed in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, including three in the town of Sammaiyeh in the Tire region.
The Israeli army had previously issued two evacuation warnings for nine villages in the south.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying several attacks targeting Israeli soldiers were in response to ceasefire “violations”.
Israel has continued its deadly attacks on Lebanon despite an April 17 ceasefire aimed at stopping more than six weeks of war between it and Hezbollah.
The ceasefire text gives Israel the right to take action against “planned, imminent or ongoing attacks.”
Lebanon’s army chief of staff, Rodolphe Haykal, met on Saturday with visiting US Gen. Joseph Clearfield, chairman of the five-member committee responsible for monitoring a 2024 ceasefire aimed at ending the latest war between Israel and Hezbollah.
In the statement made by the Lebanese army, it was stated that the two discussed “the security situation in Lebanon, regional developments and ways to maximize the effectiveness of the committee and improve its operations.”
Israeli attacks have killed more than 2,600 people and displaced more than a million in Lebanon since Hezbollah drew the country into the Middle East war on March 2 to support its backer Iran.
