ISRO Chief Narayanan Says G20 Satellite Launch Planned for 2027

Hyderabad: The G20 satellite, designed to study climate, air pollution and monitor weather, is expected to be launched in 2027, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said on Saturday.

Addressing scientists from DRDO, ISRO and Indian Aeronautics Association at the Indian Engineering Staff College, Dr Narayanan also said that India has become the first country to manage to deploy 104 satellites using a single rocket, more than 100 satellites without any collision.

“We are currently also working on a G20 satellite for G-20 countries, with India taking the lead role and we will launch in the 2027 timeframe,” he said.

ISRO chief also said that many commercial missions were carried out, including 433 satellites belonging to 34 countries, and the heaviest satellite lifted from India was also a commercial satellite.

Narayanan said that ISRO is working to send humans to the moon by 2040.

“If we achieve this by 2040, we will be at par with other spacefaring countries in terms of launch technology, satellite technology, application area and human spaceflight programme. And we are working towards Viksit Bharat-2024,” he said.

According to him, ISRO is in the process of making a 2.2 m diameter and 100 mm thick titanium ship for Samudrayaan, a Deep Ocean Mission project.
