I’ve been made redundant twice in my 20s — it does feel personal

Last week I was laid off from a boutique PR agency. A large customer of ours informed us that the contract will not be renewed for the new financial year. Thirty minutes later I was in front of the door. It was handled with tolerance. It wasn’t personal. It was just a job.

This was also the second time this had happened to me in my 20s.

His first time was at an independent book publisher that had sold itself to a larger independent publisher, and only four of 20 employees were working with him.
