Japan’s defence minister denies militarism and criticises China’s ‘huge arsenal’

Japan has been steadily increasing its defense budget, breaking spending records for 12 years in a row. Its latest budget, approved by his cabinet in December, is more than 9 trillion yen ($57bn, £42bn), bringing the country closer to its target of spending 2% of GDP on the military.
