Heavy Rain Warning for Western, Southern TN, But Chennai Braces for Heat

Chennai: Considering favorable conditions for the southwest monsoon to advance further over the next three days, IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for over 15 districts in western and southern parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Unlike the downpours in the south, the north coast of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, is bracing for severe weather disturbances.
The combination of high temperatures and intense humidity will create heat wave conditions across the region, the Regional Meteorological Center warned in its latest bulletin.
The meteorological department also said that heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipettai and Madurai districts.
Accordingly, rainfall is expected in the western and southern districts of the state until June 7.
Thirumalvadi in Dharmapuri district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at nine cm in the last 24 hours, followed by Okkur in Sivaganga district with eight cm during the same period.
Temperatures crossed 40 degrees Celsius in Vellore, Tiruttani and Chennai, IMD said. Maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at isolated places over northern Tamil Nadu.
