Jeremy Corbyn finally seizes control of Your Party after months of chaos | Politics | News

Thank God, we can breathe a sigh of relief as our painful wait is over. Finally the socialist grandfather emerged, wounded but triumphant, to take the reins.

Two rival candidates battled: “The Many” (Corbyn’s party) versus “Grassroots Left” (Zarah Sultana’s team). Corbyn won 14 seats, leaving Sultana with only seven.

Outside, I, the Communist Party of Great Britain, the Workers’ Liberty and the Spartacist League were forced to consider what decisive political power was concentrated in the warm and delicious conference center from which we were barred.

As you can see, they were very serious people. Too serious for trivial things like electing a leader.

Like many readers, no doubt, I mourned when I learned that nothing had been decided. Everything was chaos. After three days of wrangling, it was decided that a few more months would be needed to elect a committee to decide who would run the show, but probably after a few more meetings to decide that too.

President Corbyn says “the real work begins now”. One wonders what did, if the wrangling, purges and counter-purges of the previous six months had not worked.

Meanwhile, the Sultana, who was certainly not bitter about the fact that Your Party would not be His Party, graciously called for the readmission of those who had been expelled. “There should be no more witch hunts or stitches,” he insists.

But in the end, they may undertake such a vital task as opening some branches. Maybe we will publish another newsletter.

Across Islington, Tilly and Tarquin can breathe a sigh of relief.

The revolution is here and it has a leader. If we don’t notice, ignore the rest of us.
