JFK Airport reports two possible drone encounters in a single day

A helicopter reported a possible drone encounter near John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday afternoon, the second such incident at the airport in a day.

“A helicopter pilot flying near John F. Kennedy International Airport reported that a remote-controlled aircraft was flying close to their aircraft,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. he said.

This footage occurred just hours after a separate incident in which a JetBlue pilot reported a possible drone strike as the plane approached JFK for landing.

According to the warning, a “red and white” remote-controlled plane was seen flying at approximately 16:05 local time.

According to the ATIS alert, it was observed at an altitude of 500 feet, placing it within the typical flight path of low-flying commercial aircraft approaching the airport.

The sighting was also reported about 1 mile from the Canarsie (CRI) navigation beacon, a key waypoint used by planes lining up to land at JFK.

The FAA notified local officials about the report.

According to the agency, flying a remote-controlled aircraft or drone near a major airport is illegal and poses a serious safety risk for aircraft operating in the area.

The FAA said a JetBlue plane crashed into a drone at an altitude of about 3,000 feet about 10 miles from JFK early Monday morning.

Air traffic audio recordings show that the encounter took place above the cockpit.

JetBlue said the plane landed without any problems and no damage was detected on the plane during a post-flight inspection.
