House Speaker Mike Johnson accused top Democrats of having a higher priority for their positions than hungry Americans after the House voted to reopen the government on Fox News on Wednesday.
The House of Representatives voted to end the 43-day government shutdown by a vote of 222-209 just after 8pm ET on Wednesday evening.
“Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are from New York. “They needed to get political protection because the Marxists are taking over the Democratic Party, especially in their own states,” Johnson told “Hannity.”
“They feared political revenge from the radicals who now run the Democratic Party, more than they feared food being taken from the mouths of hungry families,” he added.

“The long national nightmare is finally over,” the speaker said. “The Democratic shutdown was finally crushed by the Republicans tonight. We all stood together. We did exactly what we told the American people we would do.”
The bill will head to President Donald Trump’s desk. Johnson said he would submit it for the commander-in-chief’s signature.

The fiscal showdown that has gripped Washington, D.C., for weeks has centered in part on Democrats’ refusal to support a funding bill without renewed, enhanced Obamacare subsidies.
“This was a selfish political stunt,” Johnson said. “He’s given nothing but pain to the American people, and I think it’s going to take a long time for them to forget that.”

The bill passed by Parliament only funds the government until January 30. The bill would also reverse federal layoffs that the Trump administration carried out in October.
Johnson said none of the Democrats’ “radical” demands were met in the law.
“We haven’t given them any of their radical, crazy demands,” Johnson added. “I think favor won out tonight, and that was long overdue.”

He said Trump had “bent over backwards” to support Americans affected by the shutdown and expressed confidence that the administration would continue those efforts.
“You will see the same level of enthusiasm,” Johnson said. “The entire Cabinet, the entire administration will work day and night to get the government open and operating again as quickly as possible.”
