Raichur Lok Sabha MP G. Kumar Naik reviewed the progress of development works under the Central Fund at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held in Raichur on February 21.
He chaired the meeting to ensure effective implementation of Union, State and local government plans.
Issues related to agriculture, rural infrastructure development, railway projects, telecommunication, school construction, hostels, multi-village drinking water schemes, Jal Jeevan Mission and government aid through bankers and others were discussed in depth.
Agriculture
Ministry of Agriculture officials disclosed with data that 12,477 farmers in Kharif and 6,909 farmers in Rabi have registered for crop insurance under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and compensation distribution to farmers by insurance companies continues.
They also added that the Union government has released ₹736.14 crore to 2,34,988 farmers in the district under Prime Minister Kisan Yojana.
The MP emphasized the implementation of One District One Product (ODOP) to increase agricultural production and develop and export local incomes. Responding to Mr. Naik, officials stated that the district has chosen to set up a dry red chilli market under OPOD.
Railway
While discussing the issue of two important railway projects, Munirabad-Mahabubnagar and Gadag-Wadi, the MP said that both the lines cross the region and directly connect the neighboring States, making it easier to travel to Chennai and Bengaluru from different regions. “If these lines are completed, agricultural products and other commercial products will be able to be easily transported to various places with appropriate freight rates,” he said.
Responding to the MP, railway officials clarified that the lands acquired in Sindhanur, Raichur, Manvi and Sirwar taluks have been transferred to the ministry for the Munirabad-Mahabubnagar project, while the land acquisition process for setting up industrial areas and solar power in Kurubaradoddi, Chandrabanda and Singanodi villages for the Gadag-Wadi project is ongoing.
Minister NS Boseraju suggested that the authorities take action to provide timely compensation to farmers for acquiring their land.
banks
The MP expressed his displeasure against bankers asking for CIBIL scores from farmers to approve loans to selected beneficiaries under various government schemes. “Poor and middle-class people are suffering because of this practice,” he said. He suggested to leading bank officials that bankers should be directed to approve the loan by approving the beneficiaries.
Drinking water
Highlighting the drinking water crises during summer months, Mr. Naik said that under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), multi-village drinking water projects should be implemented in rural hamlets and urban local areas of Manvi, Maski, Kavithal, Turvihal, Balaganur, Sirwar and Hatti using grants from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Urban Development Department (UDD).
BSNL network
He also directed the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials to expand the network to rural areas, especially post offices, and make the Central schemes available to the people.
MLAs Basanagowda Daddal and Karemma G. Naik, Deputy Commissioner Nitish K., Raichur Zilla Panchayat CEO Iswar Kumar Kandoo, Police Inspector Arunangshu Giri, officers from various departments and others were present.
