Sri Sathya Sai district police on Monday launched the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), a technology-enabled initiative that helps combat burglaries and thefts by allowing police to monitor locked houses when their owners are away.
Inaugurating the initiative at the District Police Office (DPO) here, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said preventing crime is more effective than investigating crime after it occurs. He said burglars are often detected by observing locked homes and isolated residential areas for several days before committing crimes, especially during holidays, festivals and family events.
SP said that under the initiative, residents leaving their homes unattended can register their travel details at least a day in advance through the LHMS mobile app available on the Google Play Store. “The information will reach the district command and control center before being forwarded to the competent police station. Police personnel will then install motion sensor cameras on the premises,” said Mr. Satish Kumar.
Pointing to the LHMS, the SP said any suspicious movement detected during the owner’s absence would trigger an immediate alert, enabling patrol teams to respond quickly and prevent theft attempts. “Public people need to keep their valuables in bank lockers and install CCTV cameras. Their participation is essential to strengthen neighborhood security and reduce property crimes across the district,” the SP said. he said.
