But when it comes to Tom Hardy, life doesn’t seem to imitate art.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the actor, who was reportedly ‘fired’ from Guy Ritchie’s gritty Paramount+ programme, had a major falling out with producers when it was revealed filming of the third series would be postponed until the end of the year.
Sources say the Mad Max: Fury Road star has decided to take a break from acting for a few years to spend more time with his wife, Peaky Blinders actress Charlotte Riley, and their two children, and has insisted on a ‘hard end’ to his acting projects by the end of 2026.
According to Katie Hind’s sources, Tom Hardy has decided to take a break from his career to spend more time with his wife, actress Charlotte Riley, and their two children.
Tom and Charlotte met on the set of the 2009 adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel Wuthering Heights, in which he played Heathcliff and Cathy.
But he was allegedly outraged when it was revealed that the delay in the script for the third season would mean filming could not begin in the summer. A MobLand insider told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Producers have told Tom they won’t start filming the new show until later in the year. They were looking at the November time because they weren’t happy with the script being ready in time for the summer.
‘But Tom was absolutely insistent that he not work after 2026 because he decided he wanted to take some time away from the industry and enjoy family time with Charlotte and the children. They are discussing leaving the limelight behind and going abroad for a few years.
‘This was a big decision for him and his family, so it was a difficult pause. Tom tried to have his way and start shooting this summer, but the directors disagreed and said no.
‘It’s no secret that Tom’s behavior wasn’t to everyone’s taste on set, so they said, ‘Come on then.’
Sources added that 48-year-old Hardy’s absence has left producers facing a ‘huge dilemma’. Filming of the second season of the series, which also stars Dame Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, was completed in March. ‘It’s causing quite a headache figuring out what to do and how to explain Harry not being there anymore,’ the insider added.
The Mail on Sunday revealed last year that relations between Dame Helen and Mr Hardy had become ‘extremely strained’ while the second series of MobLand was being filmed.
‘It’s a disaster but the bosses weren’t prepared for Tom to tell them what to do. ‘Now the script may need to be re-done, which could delay it even further.’
Sources say the actor is ‘very excited’ about his sabbatical with Miss Riley, 44, and their daughter and son, aged ten and seven, whom he first met on the set of the 2009 adaptation of Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights. He also has an 18-year-old son from a previous relationship.
The MoS said last year that relations between Dame Helen and Mr Hardy had become ‘extremely tense’ while the second series of MobLand was being filmed.
An insider claimed the veteran actress was becoming increasingly frustrated with her tardiness.
It’s not the first time he’s angered his colleagues. He reportedly got into a fight with actress Charlize Theron during the filming of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015.
