In light of the 44-year-old’s excitement about the trip, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said it could signal a new chapter for the mother of three.

They said: “She’s hugely inspired by what she’s seen this week and will really push the team to find the next point on the map quickly. This is the first part of a much wider global effort led by the princess.”

On arrival in Italy, Catherine received thunderous applause from the crowd as she was welcomed into the city’s Piazza Prampolini square by the city’s mayor, Marco Massari, before a large public reception.

Catherine’s solo participation abroad was her first since it was announced that she was cancer-free in January 2025. Although more than a year has passed since that announcement, his recovery has been a steady and gradual process.

Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond suggested the trip was a major turning point for the Princess, particularly as her role within the Royal Family continues to evolve.

He told the Mirror: “This is certainly a welcome milestone in Catherine’s journey to full recovery and the King will be delighted. He has absolute confidence in her to represent the Royal Family both at home and abroad.”

Jennie added that this event will be considered a significant event for both the King and Catherine’s husband, future monarch Prince William.

Jennie added: “She has a star quality that no other royal could bring to an event. And that’s a valuable asset to the monarchy. William would be equally delighted and proud to see his wife embark on an official solo trip abroad – which speaks volumes about her increased self-confidence after such a devastating health scare.”

Catherine’s enthusiasm about potential future overseas engagements follows Jennie’s claim that the trip will act as a bit of a test and further solo overseas visits could follow if she feels comfortable.

He added: “If she feels comfortable, this visit will undoubtedly be a gateway to official trips abroad… But Catherine has made it clear that her health and family still come first… so we all need to be patient.”
