Kavitha Seeks ECI Nod For New Party

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha has made a formal appeal to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to recognize her proposed political party. In a submission to the ECI, the party requested copies of all objections and supporting materials submitted against its registration, prior to an in-person hearing. The move follows the Delhi High Court’s directions to complete transactions with the ECI first.

The ECI had earlier informed the party that around 1,000 objections had been received, including one from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which argued that the initials “TRS” mimicked its former name Telangana Rashtra Samithi and could confuse voters.

Party general secretary Anil Kumar said the name was different and noted that the ECI had earlier approved similar names like Telangana Rajya Samithi. The party argues that unless the ECI shares all files of public objections, it cannot defend its registration under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
