AI-powered software on the anvil to fast-track building plan approvals in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of developing software powered by advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up the construction plan approval process, especially in urban areas.

According to sources, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed officials to ensure that building plan approvals are processed without delay if the applications comply with the prescribed requirements. Accordingly, the government is developing new software using artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies. The new system is expected to process applications more efficiently and reduce the time it takes to grant building plan approvals.

Additionally, measures have been taken to expedite the creation of urban development authorities in Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Tiruchi and Madurai, sources said. The state government had notified urban development authorities for these cities in 2021, but they are yet to be formally constituted and made functional on the lines of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

Following complaints about the poor condition of old apartments built by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, the State government has taken measures to renovate and rebuild nearly 28,000 dilapidated houses across the state, sources added.
