Md Yunus regime accused of creating fake list of martyrs of July 2024 Bangladesh “uprising”
According to an investigation conducted by a group of retired police officers and independent journalists, the “July Martyrs Newspaper” published by the Younis-led regime allegedly contained the names of many people who died of natural causes or accidents days after Hasina was ousted from power.
According to the investigation, the list includes the names of several deceased people who had no connection with the anti-quota protests and unrest that ousted Hasina’s government. The investigation alleged that the purpose of the martyrs’ list was to hold Hasina’s government responsible for the large number of deaths that occurred during the police operation in July 2024.
Hasina’s government had come under intense scrutiny around the world due to casualties in the July 2024 uprising. Sources in Dhaka, who requested anonymity, told ET that the number of “martyrs” was inflated due to political reasons in the past.
Nearly 300 Bangladeshi citizens who died of various unrelated causes during the tenure of the interim regime after 5 August 2024 were included in the July Martyrs Gazette to incriminate the previous Awami League government.
The paper allegedly contains the names of people who died in traffic accidents, electrocution, sudden heart attacks, kidney failure, property disputes, mob violence and prison attacks, among other reasons.
The investigation claims that the Yunus regime’s aim was to prolong the July Martyrs Gazette to accuse Hasina, Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra Union and affiliated organizations of being responsible for a much larger number of victims than they actually were.
It is possible to remember that the Hasina government was overthrown by student protests, which allegedly received support from Islamists and radical forces from abroad.
