Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh seeks special Central package for Kuttanad

Deputy Kodikunnil Surresh called the Sn on Singh Chouhan, the welfare of the Minister of Agriculture and the welfare of the farmers. Mavelikara deputy invited Mr. Chouhan to visit Kuttanad, one of the most unique and fragile agricultural ecological regions of India.
Kuttanad, known as the “Kerala Rice bowl”, is accepted as an internationally important global agricultural heritage system (GIAHS) by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). In India, it is the only region where large agriculture is applied below sea level, supporting paddy cultivation, inner fishing, traditional duck breeding and eco-tourism.
“Despite its ecological, cultural and economic importance, Kuttanad faces serious difficulties, including the effects of salinity attacks and climate change.
In his letter, he emphasized that a comprehensive package is an urgent need to provide sustainable development, livelihood protection, disaster flexibility, agricultural-based livelihood support and eco-tourism promotion. Mr. Surresh invited Mr. Chouhan to visit Kuttanad to visit his unique agricultural and cultural heritage first hand, and said that a detailed program can be organized in coordination with the local stakeholders and the state government for evaluations and discussions on the ground.
“The protection and development of Kuttanad will protect the sources of livelihood for people’s lakhs and serve Ms. Swaminathan’s sustainable and inclusive agricultural vision as a live tribute,” he added.
