Key areas of the Bondi attack federal royal commission

THE FOUR MAIN AREAS OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION:

* Examining the nature and prevalence of antisemitism and its key drivers in institutions and society in Australia

* Provide recommendations to assist law enforcement, border control, immigration and security agencies in combating anti-Semitism

* Examining the circumstances surrounding the Bondi massacre on 14 December 2025

* Strengthen social cohesion in Australia and make recommendations to counter the spread of ideological and religiously motivated extremism in Australia

OTHER DETAILS:

* Former Supreme Court Justice Virginia Bell will lead the royal commission.

* Ms Bell, a former public defender, was the fourth woman appointed to the High Court of Australia and led the investigation into former prime minister Scott Morrison’s self-appointments to various ministerial positions.

* The NSW government will no longer set up a state royal commission and Premier Chris Minns said “NSW will co-operate fully” and provide any assistance needed

* An independent inquiry into security and law enforcement issues, led by former ASIO boss Dennis Richardson, will form part of the royal commission, with an interim report due by April.

* Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Ms Bell will report before the end of 2026 and will ensure future criminal proceedings against shooting suspect Naveed Akram are not prejudiced
