Kurnool Set for Lasting Solution to Water Woes

Kurnool:With a population of approximately 6.5 lakh spread to the municipal section, Kurnool City will be blessed with a long -term solution for drinking water problem.
Civil Organ, Tungabhadra, Handri, Sunkesula and Gorukallu reservoirs, including many sources completed a feasibility study to attract water and rejuvenation and urban transformation (Amrut) 2.0.
The city was divided into 52 Council Ward, 33 of whom were under the Election Zone of the Kurnool Assembly, 16 under the panel and 3 of which are under my code. More than 95 percent of households in these wards depend on the municipal supply for daily water needs.
While the need for the city is 70-75 million liters per day, the current supply usually falls to 50-55mld in summer months.
When the Tungabhadra river dries, the problem becomes violent and leaves the city vulnerable to famine. To address this, the authorities planned to store 1.2TMC FT water at the Sunkesula reservoir. Since Kurnool requires some more water than 1 TMC per year, this measure can provide a supply throughout the year.
However, a concern is that sufficient flows to Sundaysula do not always exist.
A Coordination Committee has been established with the authorities from municipal administration, public health engineering, rural water supply and water resources departments. The Committee would prepare integrated proposals to provide a permanent solution to the drinking water crisis for the next thirty years.
“For now, the construction of the 30mld water treatment plant in Jagannathagattu. This facility is expected to meet the drinking water needs of the city for about seven months a year. A new pipeline will be thrown into Jagannathagattu from Magalapadu Summer Storage Tank to cover the remaining five months.”
Suggestions for this RS135 Crore project are completed within the scope of Amrut scheme.
Authorities, the comprehensive plan of the city’s rapid expansion, increasing demand and the need for reliable sources, he said. Once it has been implemented, the project is expected to stabilize the supply and ensure that Kurnool City residents do not encounter water shortage in the near future.
