Ed Miliband was full of praise for Mr Burnham, saying he would be a “great asset in Parliament”.
Labor deputy leader Lucy Powell and London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan also backed Mr Burnham’s return to Westminster, the Telegraph newspaper reported.
Wes Streeting condemned the anonymous briefings against Mr Burnham as a “disgrace” and insisted he was “part of the team” and should not be treated that way.
Many Labor supporters, including Karl Turner, Nadia Whittome, Ian Byrne, Chris Webb, Kim Johnson and Cat Smith, pressured the leadership not to block Burnham.
