‘They’re going to come for me’: Ex-FBI deputy director reveals he’s ‘living in fear’ as he issues astonishing warning

The former deputy director of the FBI fears ‘thugs’ will come after him after he leaves the prestigious post, causing him to ‘live in fear’.

Dan Bongino took on the role in March 2025 under the direction of Director Kash Patel. He held the post for ten months before announcing he would resign to return to his podcast.

Bongino was a controversial choice for the role because it usually goes to a senior agent and he had no previous experience at the FBI, an organization the Republican has previously criticized.

President Donald Trump said after his resignation: ‘Dan has done a great job.’

Despite the US leader’s medal of honor, Bongino told Fox’s Sean Hannity on the journalist’s podcast that he was afraid “they’re going to come for me.”

‘I’m scared, man,’ he said Hanging Out with Sean Hannity In Tuesday’s episode. ‘I know what I’m doing. And I’m proud of my work. And I’m proud of what me and Kash did [Patel] It was achieved last year.”

Bongino insisted he and Patel did everything ‘by the book’, including hiring an outside lawyer to oversee things.

But the former deputy director believes the Democratic administration will “rewrite the book just like they did with President Trump,” a reference to when they impeached the President after he left the White House.

‘I know what I’m doing. And I’m proud of my work. And I’m proud of what me and Kash did [Patel] “We achieved this last year,” he said. ‘I’m scared… They will send some thugs to my house’

‘After what I’ve read about how many people did this to President Trump, this Russia hoax, collusion, Crossfire Hurricane nonsense, and not a single person stopped them,’ he said.

“I’m so scared,” he continued. ‘They will send some thugs to my house.’

Bongino has previously referred to FBI agents as ‘thugs’, but it is unclear who he is referring to here.

Hurricane Crossfire was an FBI investigation that linked Trump to Russian interference in the 2016 election. The FBI became suspicious of Trump in 2017 after then-FBI Director James Comey launched the investigation by asking questions about obstruction of justice.

Trump called the investigation a “hoax” and frequently said negative things about Comey. The Trump Administration recently accused Comey of a social media post in which the lawyer claimed he threatened the President.

Comey published the photo of seashells 86 and 47 in May 2025. The number 86 is slang for “to lift” and Trump is the 47th president.

The former director also declared his innocence in a video published in April 2026, saying: ‘I’m still not afraid and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary, so let’s go.’

Bongino said that “they are extremely concerned about this situation.” [going to] Weaponize the justice system and start arresting people for jaywalking or tearing off a bed tag. This worries me every day. ‘I’d be lying to you if I said otherwise,’ he told Hannity.

He told Hannity that Democrats had previously rewritten history by impeaching Trump after he left office after his first term.

While on his FBI job, Bongino clashed with then-AG Pam Bondi over her handling of the Epstein files.

In May 2025, Comey shared a post showing the number ‘8647’ written in seashells, which he claimed was a direct threat to Trump’s life.

“I’m afraid they won’t be able to do the right thing when they’re in office,” he said, referring to Democrats.

While in office, Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, clashed with then-Attorney General Pam Bondi over her handling of the Epstein files, particularly the purported document containing the sex trafficker’s client list.

Bondi and the Justice Department insisted that the list did not exist and that Epstein died by suicide in his prison cell.

According to reports at the time, Bongino reportedly took a day off from work due to the conflict to consider his future in the organization.

It is known that a minute of prison security footage was missing from the night of Epstein’s death, and Bongino was internally blamed for this: axios reported.

Bongino also took issue with Bondi overpromising on the Epstein files and said he believed Bondi had underperformed in delivering.
