Washington: A US congressional panel has found that China and Pakistan conducted a fake coordinated campaign against the effectiveness of India’s Rafale jets during Operation Sindoor. Its annual report notes that Beijing is trying to take advantage of the conflict to promote its own J-35 fighter jets. He wanted to show that the J-35 was superior to Western weapon systems.

The US panel report underlines that China not only closely monitored the India-Pakistan conflict in May but also treated it as a live battlefield to test its modern weapons for marketing purposes. Beijing sees the India-Pakistan war as a “strategic opportunity” for defense sales, the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) said in its annual report.

China Tested Weapons in Real Combat Conditions

According to the report, China deployed its high-tech weapons and intelligence systems during the conflict and evaluated its capabilities in live combat conditions. The HQ-9 air defense system, PL-15 long-range missiles, and J-10C fighter jets have all been used as part of China’s real-world field testing strategy.

This marked the first time Beijing’s modern weapons were tested in real combat scenarios, and it later took advantage of this to strengthen its claims on the international arms market.

Aggressive Marketing Through Embassies and Social Media

The USCC report also alleges that China is using these claims and live demonstrations as an aggressive marketing campaign. Chinese embassies have reportedly informed multiple countries that their weapons outperformed Indian and French platforms during actual combat.

French intelligence agencies have collected evidence that suggests China is spreading fake propaganda online, including AI-generated images and video game graphics showing “Rafale wreckage” from India. The campaign was aimed at damaging French Rafale sales.

The USCC report claims that this misinformation campaign influenced Indonesia to refrain from purchasing Rafale jets from France, while China tried to take advantage of the situation to launch J-35 jets.
