Liam Rosenior: Chelsea sack head coach after three months in charge

Chelsea Head coach Liam Rosenior was sacked after less than four months in charge and after losing five consecutive Premier League games without scoring a goal for the first time since 1912.

Rosenior came to Stamford Bridge in January and signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, but could only win 11 of 23 matches in all competitions.

Following Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, Rosenior said his performance was “indefensible” and “unacceptable” as he faced angry chants from fans.

They subsequently dropped to seventh in the Premier League standings, dealing another blow to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

“Liam has always acted with the highest integrity and professionalism following his mid-season appointment,” Chelsea said.

“This is not a decision the club has taken lightly, but recent results and performances have fallen below the required standards and there is still a lot to play for this season.”
