Linda Noskova claims Wimbledon women’s title, gives emotional tribute to late mother

Heading into Saturday’s Wimbledon women’s championship match, there was no doubt where this year’s champion would come from.

This was because it was an all-Czech Republic fight between Linda Noskova and Carolina Muchova, but only one of them could go home as the winner.

This year it was Moscow.

The 21-year-old had never advanced past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam until her run at Wimbledon this year, where she edged her compatriot in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

While it was clearly a tough loss for Muchova, who stormed to victory in the second set to force a deciding set, it provided a lighthearted moment in the post-match interviews.

She was still wiping away tears when asked about her thoughts after this tough loss.

“It’s really hard to come up with any words, but I’ll start with my old friend Linda,” she joked, which drew huge laughter from the crowd in attendance.

When Noksova took the microphone and thanked her late mother, there was no dry eye in the house.

“There is one more person I want to thank, and that is my mother,” he said. “I definitely wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him, so thank you.”
