London Marathon: Record of 1.33 million people apply for 2027 event

A record number of people applied to participate in the 2027 London Marathon by public vote.

A total of 1 million 338 thousand 544 people applied for the event to be held on April 25, breaking last year’s record of 1 million 133 thousand 813.

The 2026 marathon drew a record 59,830 people, making it the largest annual one-day fundraiser in the world.

“This staggering number of entries proves that London is the most sought-after marathon in the world,” said Hugh Brasher, managing director of London Marathon Events.

“Nothing else comes close to this. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages and abilities to get active – and these extraordinary figures show the enormous appeal and power of the London Marathon.”

Voting results will be announced in early July, with quotas allocated by random draw.
