Louis Armstrong International Airport sees post-Christmas travel surge

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — From December 19 to January 4, 44.3 million people are expected to pass through airport security nationwide.

The day after Christmas, thousands of people arrived in New Orleans; They were either returning home from a holiday trip or coming for a post-Christmas trip.

“We went from Dallas to Denver, from Denver to New Orleans,” said traveler Alondra Rodriguez.

“We are visiting family in Denver, where I am originally from, but I have lived here for the last six years,” said traveler Eric Anduha.

While some said they were expecting a busy airport, getting on their plane was not a problem.

“We got through it in like 20 minutes, so it was actually pretty light,” Anduha said.

“I’ve been at airports before where it takes three hours to go through TSA, so it was nice to get through in just a few minutes,” said traveler Amanda Steiner.

“Not bad. Security was quick. I had a knee injury, so we got over it pretty quickly. We were lucky today,” said traveler Evelyn Kissel.

While some made it through without any disruptions, they still prepared more than usual.

“We got there an hour or two earlier than we normally would, because normally Newark Airport is pretty efficient. We have TSA PreCheck, so it’s usually OK, but we didn’t really know what to expect,” Kissel said.

Despite how they got to New Orleans, travelers said they were happy to land without any major problems.

“I’m really happy. I’m really happy,” said traveler Brittnay Baightel.

“We’re very excited. We haven’t had any delays and we’re really happy to be back in New Orleans, which is great,” Kissel said.
