Louis Tomlinson reveals he feels uncomfortable singing One Direction’s ‘f*****g raunchy’ lyrics now aged 34 as he admits the band are closer following Liam Payne’s tragic death

Louis Tomlinson has admitted that he felt uncomfortable singing some of One Direction’s ‘ridiculous’ lyrics because he is now 34.

The pop star was just 18 when he found fame in the chart-topping band alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and the late Liam Payne.

Aside from family-friendly hits like 2011’s What Makes You Beautiful, some of the band’s other songs also featured less-than-subtle lyrics about sex.

Explaining how he chooses from One Direction’s back catalog for his solo shows, Louie said: ‘The biggest challenge is finding a lyric that feels appropriate to sing as a 34-year-old man. And that’s actually not the easiest thing to do, because some of the One Direction lyrics are so dirty, man, it’s true!’.

Their 2014 single No Control includes the lyrics: “The taste is on my tongue, I don’t want to wash the night before” and 2013’s Alive sees them singing: “I don’t know why I want to be with every girl I meet / I can’t control it, yeah I know you got me”.

Elsewhere in the interview, Louie opened up about how he and his bandmates grew closer following the tragic death of Liam, 31.

Zara started dating the One Direction star earlier this year following her split from boyfriend Sam Thompson.

The Love Island star-turned-documentary maker moved on with the musician after a series of dates in March, and their relationship has been going from strength to strength since they officially confirmed they were an item in August.

Zara and Sam had been together for about five years; The duo became official in May 2019 and later broke up in December 2024.

Her vlog comes after she gushed about having the “best birthday ever” with Louis while enjoying a cozy weekend with sister Lottie and friends in December.
