Loyola College hosts workshop on digital accessibility for persons with low vision

The Higher Education for People with Special Needs (HEPSN) wing of Andhra Loyola College (ALC), Vijayawada, in collaboration with EnAble India, Bengaluru, organized a day-long workshop on digital accessibility for people with low vision.

As many as 20 participants, including government employees, corporate professionals, job seekers and students, benefited from the program. The training was conducted by Senior Manager Enable India Y. Rajesh and trainers Keerthan Kumar, Bhuvaneswari and Nagababu.

Participants received hands-on training on Android and Windows accessibility features, including screen magnification, font enlargement, high-contrast display, dark mode, screen readers, cursor enhancement, and other assistive technologies designed to improve digital access for education, employment, and daily life.

Mohamad Abbas, a B.Tech graduate who is looking for a job, said that the workshop increased his confidence in using accessibility tools that will help him perform better in competitive exams and in the workplace, while Rama Satyanarayana, Bhimavaram Collection, stated that the practical sessions introduced him to various accessibility features that will increase his efficiency and reduce eye strain while doing official work.

GV Lakshmi Priya, senior accountant in the Department of Telecommunications, said the training enabled her to customize digital devices for more comfortable and efficient office work. Similarly, Yerra Naidu, Department of Agriculture, Srikakulam, said the workshop demonstrated how assistive technology can empower people with low vision to work more independently and safely.

Participants appreciated the practical nature of the program and expressed confidence that newly acquired digital skills would enhance their academic, professional and personal lives.
