Luigi Mangione apologized for looking ‘suspicious’ before arrest

Luigi Mangione appeared to apologize for appearing “suspicious” before he was arrested in Pennsylvania for the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office released the video Tuesday afternoon after the 6th day of hearings to decide whether the evidence should be excluded from Mangione’s trial. The alleged assassin’s defense team unsuccessfully tried to get Judge Gregory Carro to block the release of the video.
Mangione was: Arrested at McDonald’s December 9, 2024 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. An employee at the fast food restaurant reportedly recognized Mangione and told a co-worker, who then notified police.

“I’m sorry,” Mangione told the officer before looking at his phone. During the interaction, Mangione introduced himself as “Mark Rosario” and provided an identification.
According to the officer, the person who reported Mangione to authorities did so “because he was thinking about it.” [he] He looked like one.”
Earlier in the week, prosecutors released several photos showing Mangione’s belongings, including his identification, credit and debit cards, his escape route from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati and more.

Last week, prosecutors released the 911 call that led to Mangione’s arrest at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.
“I’m the manager at the Plank Road McDonald’s here on the boulevard,” a McDonald’s manager told the 911 dispatcher. “And here I have a client, some other clients were suspicious of this, and he looked like the CEO hitman in New York.”

Altoona Police Officer Stephen Fox testified that he was certain Mangione was the suspect in Thompson’s death when the alleged assassin smiled at him.
Mangione faces multiple state and federal charges in connection with the alleged murder.
