TSCPCR member inspects Shamirpet gurukul, flags serious issues

Sarita Gogula, member of Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, visited Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC Welfare Gurukul School in Shamirpet on Saturday and expressed serious concerns about its conditions.
The school has approximately 1,200 students but does not have adequate toilet and bathroom facilities, although the existing toilets and bathrooms do not have doors.
Ms. Sarita’s visit comes at a time when students at the facility recently staged a protest at the police station over the lack of basic facilities.
During the investigation and interaction, students reported that the lunch schedule was not implemented properly. They claimed that some teachers were rude in their behavior and pointed out the negligence of the school administrator.
Students also raised health concerns, with many reportedly suffering from skin rashes and other ailments that were linked to water quality issues in the area.
Ms. Sarita instructed the authorities to address the concerns within a week, including medical examination of students and improvement of basic facilities. Noting that the school is currently operating in a rented building, she said the management should undertake repairs urgently.
