Suspended sub-inspector Gopal Badane, accused in the alleged death of a woman doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district, has been suspended, officials said on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Mr Badane was arrested after the 28-year-old doctor was found in a hotel room in the district’s Phaltan town on the night of October 23.

While the police described the incident as death by suicide, the doctor left a note alleging that Mr Badane had raped her multiple times. In the same note, she also accused a technician named Prashant Bankar of abusing her physically and mentally.
Satara police said in a statement that Mr Badane was accused of “engaging in unethical, improper and irresponsible behavior by abusing his position”. It was stated that his actions were unbecoming of a police officer and harmful to public trust.
The statement also said his actions were “deeply shameful and reprehensible.”
“As per the directions of Special IG Sunil Phulari, Mr. Badane has been suspended from service with effect from November 4 under Article 311 (2)(b) of the Constitution of India,” Satara Police Inspector Tushar Doshi said.
Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution deals with the dismissal, dismissal or demotion of a civil servant.
