Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra faced a protest by a mob allegedly comprising Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at a local party office in her constituency in Nadia’s Krishnanagar on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He claimed that the crowd threw stones and eggs and that he was injured in the attack.

Ms. Moitra herself recorded two videos of the incident from a third-floor window of the office building and published them on X. In this video, a large group of people were seen carrying BJP flags, black flags and hurling eggs one after another, targeting him while chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan.

Some of the eggs hit the window, walls of the building and also fell on the Lok Sabha MP’s sari. Meanwhile, a police team and CRPF force were also seen standing in front of the building.

“This is what happens while the police are watching. They are not ordinary people. This is the BJP mob who stood there for over an hour and threw eggs and vegetables. I called everyone. The police and CRPF are just watching. This is my constituency and I am an MP here. The West Bengal government will deny this. No police or any court will take notice of this,” he said in the video.

He later issued a video statement addressed to West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Siddh Nath Gupta and livestreamed the incident on Facebook.

“I am in a private area in the party office. In a Dhaba on the National Highway. For the last two hours, your police have been monitoring the entertainment. They are not dispersing the crowd. They are constantly egg-bombing. Look at the anarchy prevailing in Bengal. They want me to run away and when I enter my car, they will continue to throw eggs and stones. But I am just here. Please do your job. Disperse the crowd,” he said.

In the early hours of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, an unidentified person hurled stones at the residence of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Ms. Banerjee shared CCTV footage of the incident on Wednesday morning, July 1, 2026. A man wearing a green T-shirt, a helmet and a bicycle was seen standing in front of his house and throwing a large stone. He also eventually managed to break the window.

Meanwhile, another Trinamool Congress MP Dola Sen also faced intense protest from BJP workers during his visit to Durgapur to attend the blood donation camp organized by the TMC’s labor wing on the occasion of the birth and death anniversary of former Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy.

When his car entered the city, a group of BJP workers shouted slogans and showed him a black flag ‘choir, chorus‘ (thief, thief).

Reacting to the incident, BJP State President Shamik Bhattacharya said that Trinamool workers themselves threw eggs at Trinamool leaders and that the developments were the result of anger and were not part of the agenda of the BJP.
