Mainstream media and media pundits accused President Donald Trump of ruining America’s 250th and July 4th celebrations last week, even before nationwide celebrations.
A direct example of this came Friday with New York Times columnist Robin Givhan. wrote his review “Trump Ruined the Fourth of July for Me.”
“But this year I can barely stand the sight of red, white and blue,” Givhan wrote. “These colors, combined with a maximalist display of nationalist cheerleading, make my heart ache. The flags on federal buildings are gorgeous, but they hang next to banners featuring the frowning face of President Trump.”

Negative sentiment towards Trump was also present. Article from The Atlantic on Wednesday. Staff writer Anne Applebaum described how Trump “inevitably” “ruined the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations” based on his partisan stance.
“This year is different because the White House is inhabited by people who don’t believe in the ‘abstractions’ that we usually celebrate on the Fourth of July,” Applebaum said. he wrote. “And it affects the rest of us, whether we want it or not. A decade-planned Congressional celebration was usurped by the president’s celebration, which was funded by private donors and featured a political speech delivered by himself. Other institutions in and around Washington postponed or scaled back their 250th celebrations to avoid getting in the president’s way. Many who might have attended will not attend, or will not pay attention, or will not care.”
Although less critical, Washington Post reporters Natalie Allison and Cleve R. Wootson Jr. He made similar comments in posts on Saturday, claiming that Trump had made him the “center” of the America 250 celebration.
HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES MARKED AMERICA’S 250TH BIRTHDAY WITH A BAD HOLIDAY WARNING ABOUT TRUMP

A New York Times op-ed complained that President Donald Trump had “ruined” the Fourth of July for himself. (iStock)
“As he did throughout the anniversary celebrations, Trump positioned himself at the center of the story he wants the country to tell about itself: a promised ‘Golden Age’ in which America was diminished before him, revived by him, and now celebrates its founding through its own restoration. He told the crowd at Mount Rushmore on Friday night that he had ‘almost single-handedly saved’ the Second Amendment and ‘will give our country back its identity,'” they wrote.
Former NBC host Chuck Todd further angered by Trump’s role in America 250 celebrations during Saturday’s show. Todd went so far as to claim that Trump is ruining not only the Fourth of July celebrations but also America’s image.
“Trump is doing us all a favor by selfishly trying to steal this anniversary from us. Now we see who he really is. So no, it’s not the celebration we deserve. It’s not the celebration we can have. But we find a mirror, and the mirror tells us something. The country is much bigger than Donald Trump. Bigger than any president, and clearly bigger than any political party. And there’s no single definition of patriotism,” Todd said.

He continued, “But it still needs leaders who understand that it needs citizens who stick with it. And it still needs people who are willing to say that the national story belongs to all of us, not just the person who holds power at any given moment. America at 250 may be a missed opportunity. Donald Trump has certainly tarnished America’s brand. But America at 275 doesn’t have to be that way.”
Todd also said he felt angry and “betrayed as an American” and that Trump was “cheapening” the country.
“That’s why I’m so angry. Not because I love the country any less, but because I love the idea of America enough to be angry at seeing it cheapened by this man. America deserved better at 250. I believe it will be better one day. But that’s in your hands,” Todd said.
