A sudden fire broke out in a residential building in Ghaziabad’s Friends Street, Shakti Khand 2, Indirapuram, on Tuesday, creating waves of panic in the community. The fire, which started in a temporary structure on the balcony of an apartment, was extinguished after firefighters took it under control in a short time. Fire crews from Vaishali Fire Station immediately reached the spot and extinguished the fire within 45 minutes.
According to officials, several people were trapped in the building. Fire Chief Rahul Kumar said, “At 8.30 pm, information was received from Vaishali Fire Station that there was a fire in Divya Flat in Shakti Khand 2 and several people were trapped there. 5 fire trucks from Vaishali Fire Station and 2 more vehicles on duty rushed here… A temporary structure built on the balcony of Flat 5-6 caught fire. People evacuated the building immediately. We started the fire department. “Operations were completed within 45 minutes and the fire was extinguished… There were no injuries.”
Despite the chaos, no injuries or deaths were reported, thanks to the timely evacuation of residents. Five fire trucks were stationed at Vaishali Fire Station. Meanwhile, some residents point fingers at people setting off fireworks, while others deny the allegations due to lack of evidence.
“My flat caught fire first. A firecracker hit my inverter. There is a man named Jitender, who lives a little far from here. He was bursting crackers under our building… Another man from my building, Rajiv, was bursting crackers with him. RWA president Ashok Tyagi told them not to do it, but they fought with him. Finally, a fire broke out here. It started in the inverter on the balcony. I tried to put it out. I used the fire extinguisher.” The flames were extinguished, but the flames were too large for this. The fire spread first to my entire house and then to the entire building. However, no casualties were reported,” said Deepak Tyagi, a resident of the area.
Another resident said, “I live on the 3rd floor of the building. I don’t know what happened. We were at home after the puja, having dinner with our children. People gave different explanations, but no one can make such an allegation to anyone. My husband’s name is Rajiv. I live here, so I cannot burn this building. Another man whose name has been taken cannot do this either because his brother lives here. False statements have been made…”
