Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday, May 30, 2026, said fair voter rolls lead to fair elections and India is now “in that moment”.
In his inaugural address at the second National Advisors Conference representing the Election Commission of India, Mr. Kumar also hailed the Booth Level Officers and Booth Level Representatives as the foot soldiers of voter list management and congratulated the voters for their historic turnout in the recently concluded Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Noting the high level of contestation during these elections, he said, “Fair votes lead to fair votes. This is the moment today and India is also in this process.” He praised the lawyers for their dedicated efforts in representing the Commission before courts across the country.
The conference, which aimed to further strengthen the pollster’s legal framework and strategy, was attended by lawyers representing the Commission before the Supreme Court and various High Courts across the country. The Commission’s CEOs and senior officials also attended the conference.
Focusing on the theme “A year of Legal Challenges, Experiences, Learnings and Ways Forward”, the conference provided a vital platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas between the Commission and legal experts across the country, the EC said in a statement.
During the conference, interactive sessions were held on basic election processes such as electoral roll management, Special Intensive Revision (SIR), voting and counting procedures and EVM demonstrations.
Lawyers’ experience-sharing sessions, as well as discussions on electoral laws, judicial proceedings, legal reforms, institutional coordination, the role of media narratives and the EC’s technology-focused initiatives, including ECINET, offered a platform to examine emerging issues in the field of elections and law.
