Man Accused of Gunning Down His Childhood Friend After Touching Wife Inappropriately

A Georgia woman is mourning the loss of her husband, who she allegedly shot and killed while his friend was watching in her car, authorities said.

On Friday, March 13, at approximately 8:22 p.m., officers with the Waycross Police Department responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the intersection of Snelson and Old Brunel streets, where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene WPD said in a statement.

Police said the victim was Jacob Garrett Cothern, 35, of Waycross.

A short time later, officers encountered another man, Brandon Dale Frick, 29, of Waycross, who was armed and trying to flee, WPD said in the release.

Officers caught up with Frick and took him into custody.

He is charged with malicious intent to commit murder and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit it, both felonies, and discharging a firearm without a permit within 50 feet of a public highway, a misdemeanor. online prison records.

In an interview with first Coast News, Cothern’s wife, Buffy Cothern, said the attack happened Friday night while she and her husband, Frick, whom she married in 2024, were walking.

She claimed that while she was driving, her husband’s childhood friend, Frick, touched her arm inappropriately.

She told the outlet where she stopped on Snelson Street, just outside Way of Holiness Church in Conyers, and her husband told Frick to get out of the vehicle.

He said that they would not give Frick a ride home because he allegedly disrespected his wife.

A few seconds later she claimed: “Brandon pulled a gun, shot Jacob once, and when I saw my husband…”

“He falls to the ground and Brandon tells him, ‘Get up and take me home.'”

Cothern raised his hand and pleaded with his friend, “No, Brandon, please stop. We don’t have to do it this way,” Buffy said.

“When he realized Jacob couldn’t get up,” he continued, “he shot him again and nonchalantly put away his gun and started walking away. As if he had no remorse.”

Frick remains in jail awaiting his next court date.

It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
