Man and woman shot by Queensland Police during altercation in Cairns

Two people were shot, including a man armed with a knife, during a police operation in Cairns.

Police were called to Benjamina Street in Mount Sheridan at around 5.10pm on Saturday following reports of a man with a knife.

The man was shot by the police who tried to negotiate with him.

A woman was also shot during the argument.

Both the man and woman were treated by paramedics and are believed to be in a stable condition.
