Teen freed after charges dropped over stabbing death

Murder charges against a young man in the stabbing death of a teenager have been dropped.
Tyson Fenton, 19, was released after charges of murder and malicious wounding were withdrawn, police said Friday.
He was accused of attacking 18-year-old local Kaiden Morgan in Morwell, about 155km east of Melbourne, on September 27.
The other defendant, a 16-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also accused of the same murder and intentional wounding.
“Noting that this is a complex investigation that continues to evolve, it has been decided to withdraw the charges against the 19-year-old Traralgon man,” police said in a statement. he said.
The accusations against the little boy are the same.
Mr Morgan, from Morwell, was found with stab wounds on The Boulevard, a residential street in the Gippsland town, and was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.
Another man, a 20-year-old from Warragul, was discovered injured in nearby Gillies Crescent but survived.
Mr Morgan’s death sparked outrage and hundreds of mourners marched through the town in October calling for an end to Victoria’s knife crime epidemic.
During a hearing at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on September 29, Mr Fenton’s barrister Ben Lewtas said his young Aboriginal client had no previous criminal history or previous detention in custody.
He said the 19-year-old feared retaliation in prison.
Police believe the four men knew each other.
In 2024, Mr Morgan appeared in an ABC story about an Aboriginal dance group called the Boorun Boys; she talked about anxiety before performing here, but said it was one of her favorite things.
