Officers investigating murder and attempted murder, Met says

West London residents say they intervened to save the life of a man who was attacked and suffered life-changing injuries on Monday.

Two men and a teenager were injured, including dog walker Wayne Broadhurst, 49, who died at the scene.

The 45-year-old man, who survived, was reportedly rescued by his next-door neighbors during the attack, which took place at around 5pm in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge.

The 22-year-old Afghan national was tasered and arrested at the scene. The Met Police said the man was being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

In the footage, the police can be seen running towards the suspect and telling him to “drop the knife.”

The Metropolitan Police said the attack was not being treated as terrorism and detectives were trying to establish any relationship between the suspect and the three victims.

One local resident said the rescued man could have died if he had not been protected by neighbours.

Tahira Hassan, who lives in Midhurst Gardens, said the 14-year-old boy involved in the attack knocked on the door of his family’s house with blood on his shirt and asked for help.

He added that four or five residents from the house across the street came out into the street with baseball bats in their hands to protect the injured man.

“They were protecting him, so they saved his life. They did a great job.

“If they hadn’t protected him, he might have died.”

Investigations continue after Monday’s attack

Ms Hassan said the attacker, whom she had never seen before, was a “tall, thin person”, wearing a black jacket and “holding a knife in his hand”.

He said when the suspect saw Mr Broadhurst he “immediately attacked him… multiple times”.

Resident Ms Hassan said the protected man had been approached for comment but they did not want to talk.

He told the police ‘please hurry’

Another woman living in Midhurst Gardens, who did not want to give her name, said she saw the incident from her window after hearing screams.

He said his brother was on the phone with the police at the time of the attack and they saw Mr Broadhurst go out of the alley and into the street.

“He literally walked down the alley not knowing what he was about to walk into,” he said.

“As soon as we arrived in front of a house, the man with the knife in his hand literally pushed him in front of our house and then got on top of him.

“We were on the phone with the police at the time and telling the police this is happening right now, you know, please hurry.

“Afterwards [the attacker] “He stood up and then ran toward the street.”
