Man ‘carrying handgun’ shot and killed by police after crash

A man who appeared to be carrying a handgun was shot and killed by police following a car crash in Norfolk.
Police officers were called to London Road at around 8.25pm on Sunday after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision.
Police said a man believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles left the scene with what was said to be a handgun.
While armed response teams were dispatched to the scene, the suspect was later shot by the police a short distance away. Despite the intervention of emergency teams, it was determined that the person died at the scene.
Police said an investigation was ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident, which has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The A11 is closed in both directions from the Thetford Ranges junction to the Brandon Road junction.
Deputy Chief Constable David Buckley said: “We understand this incident will cause concern in the community.
“Our highly trained armed officers respond to hundreds of firearms-related calls each year, but incidents where police discharge a firearm are thankfully incredibly rare. A full and independent investigation is already ongoing.”
“We are of course fully co-operating with the IOPC investigation and will hand over all body-worn images and 999 calls to ensure transparency.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
This is breaking news, more to come…
