Man charged with sexually assaulting woman as she sunbathed on beach

A man was accused of sexual harassing a woman while sunbathing on a beach in Sussex.

The attack on women in their 50s took place on Monday, August 25th at Camber Sands near Rye on the evening of the bank holiday.

On Wednesday, Sussex police said they accused Mohammed Maatoug, a 33 -year -old Maidstone in Kent after his arrest on Saturday, for sexual assault by penetration.

He took part in the Brighton Magistrate Court on Tuesday and then appears in the same court on October 7.

In a statement, the force said: “A woman in her 50s reported that she was sexually assaulted by a man while sunbathing in the dunes of Rye at around 17.30 on August 25th.

“An investigation was launched and Maidstone was arrested on Saturday, 33 -year -old Muhammad Maatoug from Boxley Road on Saturday, on suspicion of sexual assault by penetration.

“Later on Tuesday, he was accused of the Brighton Magistrate Court and was detained. Maatoug will later appear in a court to be approved on October 7.”

Camber Sands, east of Rye, is a two -mile sandy beach, a popular coastal facility for people living in London on hot days.

It is also used regularly by people who surfing windsurfing and kite surfing.
