Man Dies After Fall During Muharram Fire-Walking Ritual

Ballari: A 28-year-old man, who suffered severe burn injuries after falling into the Alayi Kuni (fire pit) ritual during the Muharram event in Kyadigehallu village of Kurugodu taluk, died in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Devaraj (28). As per the ritual, Devaraj is said to walk around the fire pit holding a torch in one hand and a can of oil in the other. While walking on the fire, he lost his balance and fell, seriously injured.
He suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and was admitted to the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari on Friday. However, the person who did not respond to treatment died on Saturday.
According to sources, Devaraj works as a hostel warden at a private boarding school in Mangaluru. He had returned to his native village to attend the Muharram festival when the accident occurred.
Kurugodu Police registered a case.
