Man left with life-threatening injuries after car crashes into ‘multiple pedestrians’ in town centre

One person suffered life-threatening injuries when a car crashed into several pedestrians in the city center in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Nottinghamshire Police said the incident involved a red Vauxhall Astra and happened in Market Place, Arnold, at 1.12am on Saturday.

While many people were injured as a result of the car crash, it was learned that one of the injured was in life-threatening condition.

Police reported that the vehicle was abandoned at the scene after the incident and the driver fled on foot.

Officers have located a suspect, believed to be a white man, and are in the process of tracking him.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “There is no indication of any ongoing threat to the wider public at this stage.

“However, we understand that the incident will cause concern in the community.

“Officers will remain at the scene today to carry out further inquiries, speak to local residents and provide reassurance.

“It is also important that anyone with information or relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage contacts without delay.”

Roads were closed in downtown Arnold while police investigated the incident.

Junctions from Market Place and Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane and Central Avenue were closed on Saturday morning.

Police said the closures will continue for a while and drivers should stay away from the area.
