Man stabs woman before dying in head-on crash in Tasmania: Police
A woman was stabbed and a man died in a head-on collision just minutes later in northern Tasmania in two horrific incidents that police believe are linked.
Police were called to a house on Exeter Main Road at around 4.30pm on Friday to reports that a woman had been stabbed.
Detective Inspector Stuart Greenwood said: “Our initial investigations indicate that the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman.”
It was stated that the condition of the woman in her 40s, who was hospitalized, was serious but stable.
Detective Greenwood said the fatal crash, which occurred about 10 minutes later, is believed to be related to the stabbing.
“We understand that the man involved in the Exeter incident left the address in a blue Skoda and was subsequently involved in a head-on collision with a blue Nissan Navara on the West Tamar Highway at Legana shortly before 4.40pm,” he said.
“Emergency services attended the crash and the 42-year-old West Australian man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
“The sole occupant of the Nissan Navara, a woman in her 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Her condition is believed to be serious.”
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
“Investigators from multiple specialties continue to investigate and our thoughts are with the injured women, their loved ones and everyone affected by these harrowing events,” Detective Greenwood said.
