Manhattan Gold Corporation has obtained high-grade gold results from first-pass samples from its newly acquired, never-before-drilled Vanquish mine in Nunavut, Canada, testing at a hefty 20 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.
Results from the rapid channel and sampling program at the potential site within the company’s extensive Hook Lake project included impressive channel analyzes of 18.55 g/t gold over 0.3 meters and 15.45 g/t gold over 0.4 metres.
The new work at Vanquish, located 80 kilometers west of Manhattan’s flagship Jaws target, detected gold mineralization across at least 131 meters of strike, significantly expanding the footprint previously defined by historic surface drillings that returned 5.75 g/t gold from 1.5 metres.
Manhattan bought the prospect in April following a review of historical data that identified the largest gold-arsenic anomaly in the Kaminak greenstone belt, which forms part of the broader Rankin Ennadai greenstone belt.
‘Drilling work at Jaws is progressing, samples taken from the first holes are being analyzed and the first analysis results are expected shortly.’
Eric Sondergaard, technical advisor to Manhattan Gold Corporation
Despite the compelling geochemical plume, the target was never kissed by the drill bit. Exploratory sampling on Vanquish was completed during the transportation of the rig and support equipment to Jaws, the company said.
Vanquish is one of 12 candidates in the 665-square-kilometer Hook Lake project, located in Manhattan’s little-explored but highly promising Rankin-Ennadai greenstone belt.
The belt is also home to mining giant Agnico Eagle’s 6.7-million-ounce Meliadine operation, 225 kilometers northeast, and one of Canada’s largest gold mines. The company says this underscores the region’s world-class gold reserves and suggests there is potential for further significant deposits in the region.
Eric Sondergaard, technical advisor to Manhattan Gold Corporation, said:: “Early results from Vanquish are particularly exciting. This is a newly acquired, never-explored prospect where a limited first-pass program has already yielded grades of up to 20 g/t gold and confirmed mineralization in 131 meters of strike.”
Manhattan’s current work focuses on the first reverse circulation program at its flagship Jaws target; Drilling here in the 1980s outlined a historic external resource estimate of 3.4 million tonnes grading 2.38 g/t gold for 285,000 ounces of gold.
The company was quick to say that the forecast was not compliant with the modern JORC code and is now looking forward to the first batch of analyzes from the Jaws drilling program to solidify the numbers that will be developed into a JORC compliant inventory. First results are expected in the coming weeks.
Beyond Jaws and Vanquish, the Hook Lake project hosts a bag of other compelling targets. These include the undrilled Quantum and Lotus mines, which yielded surface gold samples of 16.75 g/t and 8.01 g/t respectively.
Manhattan’s other major target is Spectre, a high-grade polymetallic Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) system that reached a mouth-watering depth of 10.51 m with 2.91 percent copper, 6.7 percent zinc and 95.67 g/t silver drilled in the 1970s.
The company plans to integrate new high-grade gold results with recently acquired magnetic and LiDAR data to improve the structural model and prioritize drilling targets at Vanquish.
With drill rods turning toward the flagship Jaws and a brand new, high-grade discovery screaming to be tested aboard the Vanquish, Manhattan appears to be systematically building up a serious inventory of gold targets.
Punters will probably be watching to see if the drill bit in Jaws can deliver what the surface rocks in Vanquish suggest.
