Margaret Thatcher once ruled Britain. John Kennedy’s “Margaret” mostly demolishes it.
Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., is going viral after posting a tongue-in-cheek workout video introducing “Margaret” (an elliptical trainer named after former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher) to his followers, wearing a red bandanna and speaking directly to the camera from his garage in Louisiana.
“Hey X, there’s someone I’d like you to meet,” Kennedy says at the beginning of the one-minute video posted on social media on Friday.
“This is Margaret. Margaret is my elliptical trainer. I named Margaret after Margaret Thatcher because she kicks ass and takes names.”

Kennedy goes on to explain that “Margaret” lives outside under the garage for three reasons: The machine is too heavy to move, his wife “won’t let” him inside, and he enjoys exercising during the Louisiana summers.
The senator said he enjoys working outside during Louisiana summers; It’s a detail that provokes disbelief from many viewers familiar with the brutal heat and humidity the state is known for.
“As you can see, my elliptical trainer, Margaret, is under my garage here in Louisiana,” says Kennedy. “I’m looking for air conditioning after Margaret kicked my ass.”
The surreal, self-aware clip quickly garnered thousands of reactions online; While users took umbrage at Kennedy’s bandana look, they also praised the senator’s casual personality.

“You’re rocking that bandana dad shit,” one user wrote. “For a moment I thought you represented the Bloods. Tell Margaret I thought she was lovely but evil.”
Others praised Kennedy’s personality and home delivery style.
“You are a jewel to us normal people, Mr. Kennedy. Live long and prosper!” a supporter shared the post.
Another wrote: “Senator Kennedy is the kind of Southerner who makes you feel like you’re sitting on the front porch and a little common sense enlightens you in that poetic Southern way.”
The Louisiana Republican has long cultivated a friendly, humorous public image that stands out online, often with colorful one-liners and unconventional social media moments.

Kennedy ended the video with a sentence that further enhances the internet’s appeal.
