Savannah Bentham inquest: Mother found XL bully ‘covered in blood’ after it fatally mauled 10-year-old girl in Yorkshire

A mother returned home to find her daughter’s deadly wounded and the “blood -covered” family XL Bully Dog.
10 -year -old Savannah Bentham died on November 1, 2024 after being attacked by a six -year -old family domestic animal Biggie.
The girl was alone in the caravan where North Yorkshire lived with her family in Eastern Heslerton.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Wilkinson told a hearing in Northallerton, Savannah’s mother, Tracey Bentham, went out to ask a relative to correct a faulty gas wing connection and returned to find the tragic scene.
“Savannah was in a fetal position at the address and there was a dog and covered with blood.”
Mr. Wilkinson said that Savannah’s grandfather’s dog has guaranteed his dog in a car and tried to revive a female student, including customers and then medical officials.
However, the investigation heard that he had died from injuries to his neck.

Mr. Wilkinson told the court that there was no evidence that the dog had been aggressively aggressive, and that the family followed everything required in relation to the exemption certificate within the scope of the last dangerous dog legislation.
He said that this includes being registered in a vet and properly carved and sterilization. Biggie also wore a public barrel.
Officer said that the dog did not have to be a barrel in the family house.
Mr. Wilkinson said Savannah’s father Bradley was at the time of the incident and that the girl was with her mother because she was school holidays.
He said that the family’s caravan was part of an industrial unit, and that Mrs. Bentham’s new heating gas ball did not work properly and that Savannah wanted a shower.
“At that time, Savannah was at home with Biggie, watching television.” He said.
To this point, he described Biggie as a “lazy dog ..
He said: “When they returned to the caravan, they could see that Biggie attacked Savannah and as a result, emergency services were called.”
When North Yorkshire asked the senior coronary Jon Heath if there was any problems with Biggie in the past, Mr. Wilkinson said: “It was normal for the dog to be in the family house.
“There was no incident with the dog in the family house as much as the investigation determined.”
The officer asked by Coroner confirmed that he was not witnessing the attack in the caravan.
He said that a post -mortem examination could not find “physical or pathological changes olarak that would lead to“ aggression explosion ”.
The officer said the family had a dog for about four years and thought he was about seven years old.
The court said he thought the veterinarian pathologist was about six.
Mr. Heath said that Savannah died as a result of the injuries given to him by his family dog ”and recorded a narrative result after an hour of hearing.
Last year, the North Yorkshire police said that the dog was defined as XL bully and that it was left by a veterinarian and that it was an exemption certificate within the scope of the last legislation that banned the genus.
In a statement published by the North Yorkshire police after the incident, the family said: “We were completely shocked and devastated by Savannah.
“We can’t believe we lost our wonderful girl we love.”
