India condemns attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, pays tribute to fallen Blue Helmets

He underlined India’s role in strengthening accountability, noting that New Delhi has piloted UN Security Council Resolution 2589, which aims for accountability for crimes committed against peacekeepers.
“India joins the international community in condemning the recent attacks on UN Peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL. We pay our respects to the fallen Blue Helmets,” he added.
These remarks came after the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that one peacekeeper was killed and another seriously injured after a shell hit the UN position near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
In its statement, UNIFIL stated that the source of the bullet was unknown and an investigation was launched, expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased peacekeeper and expressed its hope for the recovery of the injured personnel.
The statement said, “There has been too much loss of life in this conflict on both sides of the Blue Line. There is no military solution. The violence must end.” In a separate statement, India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations reiterated that UN peacekeeping represents multilateral cooperation and is conducted under challenging conditions. He condemned the attacks and called on all parties to ensure the safety of personnel deployed under UN authority.
“We condemn the recent attacks on UN Peacekeepers serving in UNIFIL and pay our respects to the martyred Blue Helmets. We call on all parties to ensure the safety and security of Peacekeepers,” the statement said.
