Marshall Faulk set to take HBCU job after 1 season at Colorado: reports

Marshall Faulk is reportedly adding to his resume.
Faulk, who was away from the field for nearly two decades after his Hall of Fame career, joined Deion Sanders’ staff as the team’s running backs coach at Colorado.
But after just one season, reports say he is expected to transfer to Southern University, an HBCU [Historically Black Colleges and Universities] institution in his home state of Louisiana. WAFB was the first to inform.

faulk he told ESPN He said in August that if it weren’t for Sanders, he “wouldn’t have tried” coaching.
“This wasn’t even on my bucket list, at least. I put in crazy hours, like player and coach hours, to become a student of the game. And when I walked away, I couldn’t believe how much time I had spent on the game,” Faulk said.
Once the move becomes official, Faulk will join several other former NFL stars to become head coaches at HBCUs. Michael Vick is the head coach of Norfolk State in his home state of Virginia, and DeSean Jackson also started coaching at Delaware State this season. None of them had any previous coaching experience.

While playing on The Greatest Show on Turf, Faulk was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year every season from 1999 to 2001 and also won the MVP Award in 2000. He and the then-St. The St. Louis Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV and were selected to the Pro Bowl seven times.
Colorado regressed after the departures of Sanders’ son Shedeur and Travis Hunter. The team went 9-4 last season, following a 4-8 performance in Sanders’ first year with the Buffaloes. However, they returned to their form in 2023 with a 3-8 record.
